Revealed: Arsenal and Raiola cut of Malen’s Dortmund move

Donyell Malen is set to move to Borussia Dortmund as their replacement for Jadon Sancho – and Arsenal are set to receive a cut of the deal.

With Sancho heading for Manchester United – a deal is all but completed – Dortmund have looked to 22-year-old PSV star Malen as their alternative.

BVB are willing to shell out €30 million on the player, although not all that money is heading into the account of the Dutch side.

Instead, Ajax and Arsenal are both entitled to some of the money due to their part in the player’s development.

Malen spent eight years with the Amsterdam side as a youngster before moving to Arsenal’s academy as a 16-year-old in 2015. He would only spend a couple of seasons with the Gunners, failing to make a breakthrough before moving back to his homeland with PSV. Nevertheless, they stand to make a cut of the sale.

Arsenal’s cut of Malen move

According to journalist Rik Elfrink, who writes for Eindhovens Dagblad and AD Sportwereld, Ajax will receive 1.5% of the deal, while Arsenal will receive 1% of the transfer fee.

If a transfer is conducted for €30m as expected, it means the Gunners will receive €300,000 and Ajax will claim €450,000.

By contrast, agent Mino Raiola stands to make substantially more.

Although Raiola does not charge commission rates as high as Jonathan Barnett and Jorge Mendes, the game’s two other foremost agents, his typical rate is 9.99%.

This means that he could be in line for just short of €3m from the deal, leaving PSV with a total of just over €25m from the operation.
