Our algorithm includes players who could be viewed as midfielders such as Neymar and Phil Foden, however as they are truly recognised as forwards, they will be excluded from our list.

They are present in our list of the most valuable forwards in world football.

The midfielder with the highest price tag in world football is Manchester United superstar Fernandes. The Portuguese has been a revelation since his move to Old Trafford, quickly becoming their most important attacking player to earn a valuation of €102 million.

Marquinhos is usually deployed as a central defender, though he does feature frequently in midfield, so is his the second-most valuable midfielder at €95.5m.

The attacker with the third highest price tag is Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong at €91.2m. With Sergio Busquets getting on in years, De Jong represents the future of the Blaugrana’s midfield and it would take a hell of an offer for Barca to consider selling him.

In fourth is Joshua Kimmich who is valued at €84.5m. The Bayern Munich man was deployed as a wing-back during the European Championship, but he is undisputedly one of the best midfielders around as that is his best position.

A Premier League winner comes in fifth, and it is no surprise to see Kevin De Bruyne valued highly at €72.8m. The Belgian is not as high on the list due to the fact he is now 30 years old and does not have as high a re-sale value compared to the top four.

The 2021 Champions League final match-winner Kai Havertz is in sixth, valued at €71.3m.

Premier League winner Rodri is seventh, valued at €70.8m.

Casemiro’s work at Real Madrid may have been underappreciated over the years, but not at FootballTransfers as he is the eighth-highest valued midfielder at €70.7m.

The youngest player in the top 10 is Barcelona wonderkid Pedri, who is a certainty to climb up the standings as his career progresses. He is valued at €69.9m.

Rounding off the top 10 is Bernardo Silva, valued at €69m.
