Sancho reveals why he joined Man Utd

Jadon Sancho completed an €85 million (£73m) move to Manchester United from Borussia Dortmund on Friday.

It was a deal that was long awaited, with Man Utd failing to sign the England attacker last summer after refusing to meet Dortmund’s asking price.

Sancho had, though, agreed personal terms with the Old Trafford side and was more than happy to make the move back to England this summer when given the opportunity.

In an interview with the club’s official media, he has explained that the vibrant nature of Man Utd’s young squad is one of the reasons that he returned to his homeland.

“That’s one the main reasons why I came to Manchester United. I can see the development that’s going on here,” he explained. “I want to be a part of it, especially because it’s such an iconic club. To be a part of it is kind of a dream come true. I’m sure my family will be proud of me making this big step.”

While a deal was discussed long before this summer, Sancho says it was not until after the season had ended that things really started to move forward.

“I was in Germany just playing my football and focusing on my team,” he said. “I was blocking out all the noise. Then obvious when I was at the Euros, that’s when things started to pick up even more. That’s when I started to hear that United were interested.”

Meanwhile, Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has spoken in glowing terms as to why the club were so eager to return for the 22-year-old a year after missing out on him.

“He’s such a talented boy. As it’s been known all over the world, we’ve followed Jadon for a long, long time. He’s a player that we’ve targeted and we think his qualities will fit right in here at Man United,” he said.

“He’s such a creative, positive winger and forward player. He can play wide, nip into the pockets and he excites the fans. He takes people on one-against-one, he creates chances, he works hard and he loves football. And there is some untapped talent there I am sure, and coming into this environment will help him improve as well.

“He’s got that DNA of exciting fans and entertaining and he’s also a winner. He wants to win and that’s the next step for us. We need to take the next step, we want to take the next step and we feel that he can help us do that.”

Sancho could make his competitive debut for Man Utd on 14 August against Leeds in the Premier League.
