Nagelsmann: It is normal for clubs to want Lewandowski July 15, 2021 by Jürgen Götze Bayern Munich head coach Julian Nagelsmann believes it is natural that other clubs have made their interest known in Robert Lewandowski. The Polish striker is the best centre-forward in world football at the moment, breaking all sorts of records in Bavaria. In the 2020/21 campaign he scored 48 goals in all competitions and 41 goals in the Bundesliga which broke the record previously held by German legend Gerd Muller for the most goals scored in a single top flight season. Trending He has won everything there is to win with Bayern including the Champions League as part of a treble in 2019/20. There have been suggestions he could move on to pastures new, with Real Madrid allegedly monitoring his situation. Nagelsmann has revealed he has already spoken to Lewandowski about his future with Bayern, though, having been appointed head coach as a replacement for Hansi Flick. “The rumours about Robert Lewandowski have been around for ages, I think since he joined Bayern Munich,” he said to Sky Germany. “I think it’s normal for someone who scores so many goals that almost every club puts out a feeler. “I think on one hand Robert knows what he has in Munich, what he has in this team. I’ve spoken to him and texted him. I’m not very fond of the first official act with a player being to immediately discuss his contractual situation.” New Bayern head coach Julian Nagelsmann What has Lewandowski said? Lewandowski previously added fuel to the fire by suggesting that it was always a career goal of his to experience new surroundings and culture. “I remain open-minded. I feel very good at Bayern, the city is superb, it’s a great club,” said the Poland international in an interview with Canal+. I am always curious to learn a new language, a new culture- “I am always curious to learn a new language, a new culture. But whether it will be in football or after my career, even I don’t know.” Having saved their money by not buying a single player last summer, Real Madrid are hoping to add another Galactico to their roster ahead of the 2021/22 season. Ideally, Los Blancos would like to sign Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland, but like most clubs in Europe they have been impacted by the pandemic financially, while there is still ongoing construction at the Santiago Bernabeu which will need to be paid for. There is also the presence of Karim Benzema to think of as he has probably been Real Madrid’s best player over the past two seasons, scoring 44 goals and recording 17 assists in 71 appearances in La Liga.
