Manchester City set to SMASH transfer record to sign Kane

Manchester City could be about to break the Premier League transfer record by signing Harry Kane from Tottenham for £160 million.

Ahead of the European Championship with England, Kane informed Spurs chairman Daniel Levy of his desire to leave the club in pursuit of silverware.

The England international enjoyed continued excellence in the 2020/21 season, not only topping the goalscoring charts to earn another Golden Boot, but also recording the most assists in the Premier League.

In all competitions, he scored 33 goals and recorded 17 assists.

However, Kane, again had nothing to show for his efforts as Spurs failed to win a trophy and, crucially, failed to qualify for the Champions League.

The 27-year-old is one of the greatest goalscorers England has ever seen, but he is yet to win a major trophy in his career.

Kane’s desire for medals led to him asking to leave, which catalysed speculation about where he could go.

Man City and Manchester United were believed to be leading the race for his signature, though it appears Pep Guardiola’s side are now favourites.

It was originally thought that both clubs would be priced out of a move for Kane, but The Sun is now reporting that Tottenham will accept a £160m bid which would make the Englishman the most expensive player in the history of the Premier League, surpassing the previous record set by Paul Pogba.

The most expensive player ever in the Premier League is currently Pogba.

The Frenchman made his widely publicised return to the Red Devils in the summer of 2016 for a world-record transfer fee at the time.

Another player that has come under intense scrutiny, largely because of the money spent on him, Pogba has frustrated some fans with inconsistent performances.

When fit and firing, Pogba is certainly Pogba’s most creative and influential player, even perhaps more so than Bruno Fernandes, but his yo-yo performances mean he has not yet convinced everyone.

He does tend to play a lot better for France than he does for Man Utd, and that can perhaps be attributed to the fact that he doesn’t have a set position at Old Trafford, having been utilised as a central midfielder, attacking midfielder, and even on the wing in recent campaigns.

Rounding out the top five, should Kane join Man City, are Harry Maguire, Romelu Lukaku and Virgil van Dijk.
