How Real Madrid could line up with Mbappe

With every passing day that Kylian Mbappe refuses to discuss a contract extension at PSG, the chances of the France superstar signing for Real Madrid increase further.

Mbappe’s contract at the Parc des Princes expires in the summer of 2022 and it is now looking more and more likely that his next club will be the Blancos.

The European media has gone into overdrive in recent weeks with talk about a possible transfer as early as this summer, as PSG look to avoid losing Mbappe for nothing next year.

A three-way swap deal that will see Mbappe join Real Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo move to PSG and Mauro Icardi depart for Juventus has been heavily mooted.

But how will Madrid line up if they sign Mbappe in time for the 2021-22 season?

Well, the goalkeeper position picks itself as Thibaut Courtois has established himself as one of the best in the world.

In defence, Dani Carvajal will start at right back providing he can maintain his fitness, while Ferland Mendy showed last season that he is an excellent option on the left.

The centre of defence could be an issue for Madrid. Sergio Ramos has left to join PSG on a Bosman transfer, while there is a risk that Raphael Varane could depart too for Manchester United.

Nevertheless, given Varane is still a Madrid player, we are going to pair him with new Bosman signing David Alaba at the middle of the backline.

In midfield, long-term trio Casemiro, Toni Kroos and Luka Modric should begin yet another season together under returning coach Carlo Ancelotti. However, keep an eye on Federico Valverde or even Isco, who has impressed Ancelotti in pre-season so far.

In attack, assuming Madrid are unable to sign Erling Haaland, then Karim Benzema is a guarantee in the number 9 position.

Mbappe himself could play on either the right or the left. However, perhaps it would be wiser to select another young prodigy in Vinicius Jr in his favoured left-wing position, with Mbappe causing havoc from the right.

The likes of Eden Hazard and Gareth Bale will also be staking a claim should they stay at the club.
